Animatic

I created a Basic animatic, with the shots from the story board;

After i had finished the animatic i knew i need to change some shots, angles and the ending. I then spent about three days to create softer/ clearer movements. I have done this for three shots.

I gathered research from drawings my pet dogs at home, researching different types of animal cruelty online (google.com) and recording my Pet dogs reactions to different things. Here is some of my research:

From this i decided to do some basic drawing of different expressions

Sad expressions

Sad head turn

Dog jumping

Dog Chewing

Basic Dog walking (over exaggerated)

New Idea Production work

After having a talk to my tutor about my idea of the little girl and her grandfather, he said the idea was to cliche and i needed to come up with a new idea. By this time it was a week into my 3rd year, and i was struggling with a new interesting idea. Until my classmate suggested animals; animals animation story with cats, or dog, or birds, or bears...etc. Which i loved, my passion is animals, especially dogs. So i began story boarding, while story boarding an advert came on my tv. RSPCA, i began to storyboard a story to show animal cruelty and the protection the RSPCA give to animals.

Here is the Story Board i loved and choose for my 3rd Year animation:

End of my second year

At the end of my second year at University i came up with a simple sweet idea for a third year film.

I wanted to show the sweet caring relationship i had with my Grandfather. By having a Young girl and a Grandfather reading her a story for her bedtime. As the Grandfather reads the story and the words become alive. As the story comes alive, the little girl gets drawn into in and begins her adventure. I wanted to create this piece with 2D and 3D animation/ backgrounds.

Here is my 1st mock up sheet of different stories the Grandfather could be reading to the girl.

The 1st story was a New born fairy spreading her wings for the 1st time, but she is hurt and needs help to get to Doctor Squirrel. The little girl would venture through the forest looking for help. She manages to find another fairy and they both manage to carry her to Doctor Squirrel.

The 2nd idea for a story was About a hungry lion trying to find food in the jungle, searching and searching he manages to find a bird by a little pond. The hungry lion try's to sneak on the bird but his rumbly tummy is making it impossible for the lion to get close enough. As grandfather reads on and the lion gets closer, the little girl changes the story because she scared for the little bird. Instead of the lion eating the bird, nanny comes in and interferes. Nanny tells off the lion and takes the lion and the bird home for tea. With the girls imagination the Lion has a Lion bar, the Bird has a Penguin and Nanny has a Granny smiths apple.

The centre drawing shows the Basic idea for the girls room.

I was starting to get excited with this new idea, and i really like both short story's but i agreed to go with the second story where the girl's imagination came alive more. From this i wanted to finish the design of the Bedroom. (below)

Then i stared shading colour's for the main bedroom:
